String it Together: Finding Togetherness on the Education Digi-scape series presents:
Dental Care Beyond a Hope and a Prayer with Dr. Rafael Bustamante (DDS), Signature Dental, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

In Canada, “universal” health care excludes dental care. If folks have dental coverage under a benefit plan it is limited at best. This causes extreme health care issues for folks whose lives are shaped by poverty.
Dr. Raf will teach us how to care for our teeth on a shoestring budget. He will teach us what we can do to prevent small issues from becoming major problems that impact not only our teeth about all aspects of our health. He will explain how to make the most of benefit plans which includes poverty-class students who are part of mandatory higher education health and dental plans and how to deal with “black out” periods. Dr. Raf will help us learn how to navigate the Canadian dental care system with graciousness and a deep understanding of how poverty shapes dental health and access to care.
This educational and interactive session is for those who are afraid of seeing the dentist because of an inability to be able to afford even the most basic care and what they might find out. Attendees will learn how to find poverty-class-friendly dentists who understand the shame and stigma of never having enough money to afford dental care. This session is also for those who need to learn how people experience not being able to access proper and consistent dental care and how this impacts lives.
At this free webinar, participants (from anywhere in the world) will be able to engage with Dr. Raf and ask all the questions you’ve been too scared to ask from the basic to the complex. In this session, we’ll move beyond dental care on a hope and prayer to realistic and proactive dental care for people’s entire well-being.
Dr. Rafael Bustamante
Dr. Bustamante received his dental degree from the University of Alberta in 2004. Working under high magnification with the aid of a dental operating microscope since 2005 has taken him on a journey to strive daily for exactness and precision. He enjoys all aspects of restorative dentistry as well as conventional and surgical endodontics (root canal therapy). Currently, he is a member of the board of advisors for the Pankey Institute, a centre for advanced education for dentists. He is also on the faculty track for the Bioclear Learning Center, teaching online and in his home province the Bioclear Method. When he is not obsessing over tenths of a millimetre in someone’s tooth, he is volunteering in the community, biking the river valley with his two sons, grilling over a roaring fire, or relaxing with his wife and boys at home.
